Everyone knows that when you come to the University of Kentucky to play basketball, and you play really well, your NBA prospects are pretty good. That's because Coach Calipari has a first rate program. He knows how to turn young basketball players into well rounded, NBA-ready basketball players, by bringing the best out of them. He makes sure that they understand, when you come to play at Kentucky, you play for the team - not for yourself.
It is true that Kentucky is known as "one and done". But Coach Calipari is gifted at what he does. He cares deeply about each one of the players. And by the end of the season, it is amazing to see how much each player has grown and matured.
Jamal Murray obviously understood that. Because he turned down at least $1 Million to come to Kentucky.
Kentucky not only had to fend off Oregon to land Jamal Murray, they also had to beat out professional teams.
Murray’s father told Hoops Hype Canada that his son turned down a seven-figure salary from a professional team in order to play at Kentucky.
It’s not clear what professional team had offered Murray, but it most likely would have been an overseas team. He could have taken the Emmanuel Mudiay route and played professionally overseas for a year before entering the NBA draft.

Well, it doesn't matter now which team it was. We are thrilled that Jamal is going to play here at Kentucky! And we know that he will not regret his decision.
Welcome to the BBN Jamal!
