How many times have we heard this rumor? Another team is trying to steal Coach Cal away from us? At least every year right? Well, this year is no exception. And who would be surprised? Just look at what Coach Cal has done since he has been at UK.
The rumor: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported - The Sacramento Kings are probing University of Kentucky coach John Calipari about his interest in taking over the franchise's front-office and coaching jobs, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Calipari has been communicating with owner Vivek Ranadive and other members of the Kings' ownership group in recent weeks, league sources said. Calipari has listened to scenarios with which the Kings could offer him complete control of the franchise's fledgling basketball operations to go along with coaching, league sources said.
No formal offer has been made to Calipari, and Kings ownership understands that it will take a multiyear financial package of $10 million-plus annually to get Calipari to seriously consider leaving Kentucky, sources said.
He might want to double check his "sources" the next time before he shoots out a story.
The answer: As he has done in the past, Cal responded to the report on twitter. “For the 100th time, I have the best basketball coaching position in the world,” Cal wrote. “I am not looking for any other coaching position. Since he bought the team, [Kings owner Vivek Ranadive] and I have talked on and off about [DeMarcus]. [Vivek] has asked me what I thought about [DeMarcus] and I told him he would be an all-star, and I was right. In the last two weeks, we’ve also talked a bunch about the draft and on draft day, obviously because of [Willie Cauley-Stein]. At no time has [Vivek} offered me a job. I WILL BE AT KENTUCKY.”
That's right! You heard him everybody. So just leave him alone. We aren't going to let him go anyway. We will be doing just fine here in the Big Blue Nation of Kentucky. Actually, in case you haven't noticed, we will be doing BETTER than fine. WE WILL BE OUTSTANDING!
